davidcpp: Escitalopram withdrawal

As I've written before, after these 2 doses of 2mg started to occurr dizziness. Therefore I've taken today 2.5 mg. These dizziness haven't occured before. Can I suppose that these dizziness result from these 2 days? Similar feeling occured when I've interrupted once the drug while regular taking this drug. Can I safely take 2mg or taking into account these dizziness it's better to not risk with this change?

3/21/2014 - Escitalopram Actavis 5mg (half of a pill) every day.

6/1/2014 - Escitalopram 10mg

6/30/2015 trying to withdraw totally - I kept waiting until the eleventh day but withdrawal was too strong so reinstated

7/2/2015 Escitalopram 5mg / every 6 days

8/27/2015 - Increasing to Escitalopram 2.5mg / per day - a lot of withdrawal symptoms , not sure what to do ....

Next mistake was to reinstate 1.9 mg instead of start from lower doses because doses from drug stored in refrigarator were disturbed. After 3 weeks i find out that i must go down and go down to 2021/06. 2021/06 Going down from 1mg to 0.4 in 2 weeks when I feel that that dose became to high. I started to feeling better then at about 0.4mg after, I started feeling that drug too high dose symptoms starting to let go in few days.

david, did you notice the advice about allowing at least 4 days for dosage changes to take effect? Did you read my warning about jumping around in dosage?

This is very frustrating to me. If you want to do it your way, do it your way. I feel I've contributed as much as I can. Good luck.

Yes, I've read it. I don't want to do my way, I had huge doubts morning when I want to take my drug :( Simpy I don't know what to do that when I dissolve Escitalopram in water and I started to wonder if this is good way, because after mixing some relatively large part lay at the bottom. I was very hesitant and I wondered half hour what to do :( I don't know what should I do, because these dizziness weren't before.

It seems pointless to keep discussing this with you. If it terrifies you to take the liquid, perhaps you should stop playing with it and deal with withdrawal symptoms instead.

Make your own decisions. I can't spend any more time explaining this to you.

Hi david,

You mix it around and then quickly draw the dose into the syringe while its still moving. See this topic for more details: How to make a liquid from tablets or capsules

Read through the topic, most questions are already answered.

Its more important to stick with one dose then to keep changing to find the 'best' dose. Whatever you are taking now, stick with it, in time the dizziness will go away, it may take a few weeks or possibly months.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

David--  I was asked to edit your post #82 to remove information that was given to you in a private PM.  The entire purpose of having Private Messages is so people can share things that they do not want the general membership and the internet to know.  Breaching that confidentiality is not acceptable.  If permission is asked for and received then it can be done, but both parties must be in agreement first.

I have hidden the post in question because it advocates behavior that is not in keeping with the rules of this forum and am elevating the issue to the administrators.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

I have only question about bringing lexapro in liquid from USA to Europe, more precisely to Poland. Is it possible? Is there some way to do that? My additional problem is that I haven't psychiatrist or doctor which could prescribe me the next package of drug. Every psychiatrist say that I have to take other drug and I have to cut out this drug completely or in way from 2.5mg to 1.25 and so on.

My symptoms are unbearable but these are symptoms which are stronger or didn't appear during ealier withdrawal. They increase and started to appear when I started to take 2.5mg/day and I fell completely during last time with this dosage and I don't know when will I be able to start tapering. Symptoms are more severe not from the withdrawal but from this dosage. My nervous system became sensitive sounds, hits(impact). All the time I am thinking about what stupid things I've done, I can't stop it. The worst that my Mother experience very my dysfunction and want to apply some way from psychiatrist and thinks that person specialist and he has good solution for that problem, and I unnecessarily I get tired with this pill. She thinks that psychiatrist want to help me and he knows better than people in the Internet what to do. For example, one of the psychiatrists I visited suggest me taking Afobam(Alprazolamum) during withdrawal Escitalopram from 2.5mg to 1.25 and so on. My mother thinks that it allows me wthdraw Escitalopram.

3/21/2014 - Escitalopram Actavis 5mg (half of a pill) every day.

Davidcpp,

Your anxiety is getting hold of your ability to make precise decisions.

I have read through your post and I understand that the whole tappering process can be confusing.

You need to stick to a regular dose and don't expect the stabilization to take part over night.

Many of us have made the mistake of cutting down too fast or going up and down.

You have to make a decision and stick to it.

It might take couple of weeks before you feel stable.

Choose a dose and stick with it.

Dizziness can be a part of a WD symptom.

This is temporary.

Ride through the waves, there is no quick fix for WD.

I have learned the hard way. Adding more drugs to curb WD, seldom works.

Best of luck, Hopefull.

DRUG HISTORY:

November 2013- Zoloft, ( Bad reaction).

January 2014 - March 2014 Seroquel.( Quit Cold Turkey).

January2014- Mirtazapine, I was taking 15mg at one stage, reduced to 7.5mg, Pgad reactions to Mirtazapine. Doctor kept increasing it to 37.5mg, until July 2014. No improvement, experiencing panic attacks, on 37.5 mg. I had enough by October 2014. Began tapering.

October 2014- Started tapering Mirtazapine from 37.5mg.

September 2015- Down to 4mg of Mirtazapine. Crashed.

September 16th- Up dosed to 5mg. Held this dose for almost 5 months. Stabilised.

February 2016- Began tapering again. From 5mg to 4.5mg of Mirtazapine. (Rocking the boat, again)! Lol. :(

The problem is that i can't impose my idea of withdrawal of this drug any of doctors. Somebody must prescribe me this drug and earlier they were GPs and next doctor of natural medicine with which i broke contact, it will be hardly to do ask some doctor to prescribe me this drug for a long time yet. I've made so much mistakes that i feel like i would set up a trap for myself. Is it some way to bring Lexapro in liquid from USA to Europe? I've heard about it, but i don't know what about the prescription of this drug. The main problem is that 2.5 mg dose, which i have, cause more severe symptoms than were before, it seems that it this is more a problem with too much dosage than with WD. Problem is that i haven't waves, every day is just as bad as previous with this dosage.

7/2/2015 Escitalopram 5mg / every 6 days

Next mistake was to reinstate 1.9 mg instead of start from lower doses because doses from drug stored in refrigarator were disturbed. If you think the drug is making you worse, I would reduce it or stop it.

We've already discussed making a liquid, you won't do that, so if you want a liquid, you'll have to figure out some way to get it on your own.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

The thing is that these drugs are everywhere issued on prescription. You can't just buy them in a store or import them

Have you tried not asking doctors to agree with your tapering plan? Just tell them you want to continue using the drug and that it does you good. If you go to them complaining about the symptoms it's causing you they will want to change it. You don't need them to agree with your tapering plan. You just need the prescription so give them what they want to get what you want.

 Hi David,

It sounds like you are sensitive to the drug.  You were on 5 mg every 6 days. That is like " ping - pong" on your brain . Destabilizing for your C.N.S. Maybe if you reduced to 1mg, for a while to see if you feel better and then if you do, you will know it's more of a sensitivity to the drug , and less of a withdrawal issue and can taper off , fairly quickly, if you have to.  You say you have more severe symptoms , than before. You say it is too much . It probably is. Try reducing a bit, and see how you feel. Keep track of your symptoms.

Ali.

Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. Cold turkey off Valdoxan - end of May 2014

Hey David, I don't know if you are still around, but I wanted to put my thoughts out for you to consider:

You wrote:

supplement Solgar B-vitamin complex

  1. Solgar is expensive, and a B-complex is a very general thing - some people need more B3, some more B6, some more B12, and some need different forms of each of these.  You could save money by not buying expensive brands.  Additionally, Solgar, for a "gold label brand" - doesn't really score very well in Consumer Labs testing.
  2. B vitamins can make your symptoms worse.  They are "activating" and stimulating to the nervous system, and you might be sensitive to them.
  3. If you want to try B vitamins, it is better to break them up - not use a compound.  I would stop taking the Solgar right away, and see how it feels.  If you feel better (have a window) then you should leave it off.
  4. IF you want to reintroduce B vitamins, please do so one at a time, after you have been off of the complex for at least a week.  I would start with B12, which is severely depleted by psych drugs. Start on the LOWEST POSSIBLE DOSE and work your way up to a full dose (many people only take 1/4 of the smallest tablet they can find)
  5. Vitamin D is also severely depleted by psych drugs.  Try all supplements one at a time, and wait a week to see if they are going to interact with your suffering nervous system. BUT AGAIN, it can be ACTIVATING, so you need to try it very carefully.  I mention vitamin D because of your muscle spasms:  Vit D and Magnesium are helpful together for these things.
  6. See: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/43-vitamin-b3-niacin-niacinamide/  http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?showtopic=419  and http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/39-vitamin-d3-cholecalciferol-or-calcitriol/

I believe that if you stopped the B-complex, you might find some relief - that is - as long as you are on a stable dose of escitalopram - for at least a few months, since you were having such bad withdrawals.

I can not cope with the idea that a recommendation to me this drug it was a complete mistake. Doctors just couldn't find real source of problem and I wasn't informed about consequences of this drug. I didn't know what should I do with my health problems so I started to taking this drug. i'm a little bit frustrated.

All of us are here because our doctors did not understand the consequences of these drugs.  Many of us, like yourself, never had a "mental illness."  Doctors are trained by schools which are funded by drug companies.  Doctors are trained to prescribe - not "unprescribe."

I saw a science show last night where a young oncologist Ranjana Srivastava said, "We doctors need to learn how to de-prescribe."

In addition, now it seems to me that after starting to take a dose 2.5mg they began to bigger problems. I feel worse mental and in cognition issue (apathy, anxiety, confusion, ), muscle discomfort and it doesn't occur any better day/s (window) in last 6 days. (trimmed)  Just i wanted to show, that some problems began to occur or deepened, after several, over a dozen days after reinstating 2.5mg.

Like Petunia said, this is about months, not days.  Like Alto said, you have to keep a stable dose if you want symptoms to subside.

Your brain is a very complex organism:  parts of your brain are closed down.  Imagine very complicated road works with about 25 intersections coming together.  This week, the traffic lights are shut down, and you need a cop to manage the intersection.  When that is repaired, well, maybe they need to re-do the shoulders, so they can divert traffic onto them for later when the lanes are being repaired.  Then there's the repairing of the lanes - it doesn't all happen at once.  Sometimes they need to rip up the old tarmac, change all the drainage routes, relocate the services for electricity and plumbing, get down to the foundation, and re-grade it, lay new gravel, then steel rebar, pouring concrete foundation, then laying the asphalt.  Sometimes you will go for 5 months, and the road is still closed, but you can't see what they are doing to it!  Each phase requires time to set and dry.  Then you can paint the lines on it, and go to another part of the intersection - perhaps one of the other incoming roads needs the same treatment.  Perhaps there are exit ramps and roundabouts and flyover lanes that need repair.  Each of which takes time.

Now imagine the millions of networks in your brain healing - they don't just, "heal" and be done.  It's a construction process, like Bubble was saying.  Road works for the brain.

Just my way of saying, be patient with yourself.  It might be the tarmac this week - but the lines aren't on the road and you're disoriented.  Maybe the signals are crossed at the intersections, or the signs are removed or there are detours.  Be gentle with yourself, be patient with yourself.  It's a complex process, and the gentler you are, the more easily you will heal.  It does no good to shake your fist and yell at the construction guys while they are doing their work!  So just wave (lol, wave!) at the worker, declare to yourself, "This is yet another symptom of withdrawal," and drive carefully past the obstacle.

"Easy, easy - just go easy and you'll finish." - Hawaiian Kapuna

Holding is hard work, holding is a blessing. Give your brain time to heal before you try again.

My suggestions are not medical advice, you are in charge of your own medical choices.

A lifetime of being prescribed antidepressants that caused problems (30 years in total). At age 35 flipped to "bipolar," but was not diagnosed for 5 years. Started my journey in Midwest United States. Crossed the Pacific for love and hope; currently living in Australia.   CT Seroquel 25 mg some time in 2013.   Tapered Reboxetine 4 mg Oct 2013 to Sept 2014 = GONE (3 years on Reboxetine).     Tapered Lithium 900 to 475 MG (alternating with the SNRI) Jan 2014 - Nov 2014, tapered Lithium 475 mg Jan 2015 -  Feb 2016 = GONE (10 years  on Lithium).  Many mistakes in dry cutting dosages were made.

Hi! :)

I've already thought that I won't longer have to post on the forum, that there will be no need to do it, but I've missed. Now I was kicked by this drug and demons of the past have came back, fortunatelly it seems that for a while. Surely, there is a lot of things that happend up to this point, but I want to post the most important from them. At the end of December 2015 I've started to tried to taper by about 10% my 2.5mg dosage of Lexapro (exactly Escitalopram). I didn't have hope that I can fix my body in the future, but I was doing tapering. I've started to use digital scale with 0.001g precision. Throuh few months I haven't observed noticeable change to better. I was almost completly dysfunctional, even walking or climbing stairs were big problems for me, also brain was off in large part. The most of the symptoms last during about half of o year.

However, At the April, May something started to happen. I returned to programming, more and more things started to make me happy ( for example some music), I feel energy to do more and more. From the July I go to work as a programmer, In August, with the financial help of my Parents i bought a car to go to work. I come back to cycling and even I've driven more than 100 km on bicycle. Generally I've started to feel even better than before all of my health problems and I didn't expect that at all and especially that I will get my life back on track so quickly.

Now I am on about 0.85-0.9mg dosage - I take 16-17mg from 94mg pill (5mg of escitalopram)  I am writing now because of symptoms which have came yesterday. There are stiffing tendons, muscles of leg s, foots, feeling sleepy before 9 P.M., anhedonia, loss of energy and few more similar symptoms. Today they clearly abate, they came in waves during today. For these reasons I didn't go to work today, tomorrow also I'm not going to go to work. I don't know what will be the best to do in my situation.  I am writing because i don't know from what factors results this sudden, unexpected worsening. In work I've started to drink coffee and yerba mate, I've tried to drink 1-2 cups of coffe, but except that I drunk yerba. I wonder if my increased activity trough last weeks could cause sudden symptoms. Is it possible that is associated with uncorrectly changes in drug dosage? These symptoms came after more than 2 weeks at new dosage. I suppose that I should wait more time for next going down with dosage? In last time I was changing 3-4 times dosage (by about 10%) at around 3 weeks. Earlier changes were made at at least 4 weeks.

With last changes I didn't feel almost any withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes at increased fatigue and a day after drinking more coffee I became angry, but tha's all.

I'm sorry for my english, I suppose that it may be sometimes less understandable. I'm also sorry for that I haven't update yet my drug history in signature. I would have to write down whole story missing and I feel sleepy and I don't have energy to do it. Therefore I said I would write a post only the most important informations. It possible that I have not posted something needed.

Sometimes waves symptoms occur while we're tapering a drug such as escitalopram. You may want to read (or read again) this topic:

Hi!

It seemed that I have now one of the most difficult time and decision in my tapering. Last few months I thought that everything always will go like clockwork, but I was wrong. From last wave coming symptoms already generally abate, but now again I' ve got a little different symptoms like about month ago, but similar in intensity. There are stiffing muscles of legs, feeling sleepy before 9 P.M., anhedonia, loss of energy, concentration, cognitive impairment and few more similar symptoms.

I feel I would be trapped with causes of my worsening. It is possible that worsening result from inaccurate dosage? It seems me that measurement of dose is repeated and accuracy is quite good, but can this accuracy be still to low for me? Even though so it was and so I have no other way to do tapering :(

May it be related to too long (about 1.5 month) taking of 0.9mg dose?

Some of symptoms are from month with me like some little muscle tension of legs and sometimes I had a mind fog, but generally I was able to work.

I don't know now what will be worse: keep with current dose or taper current dose. I know that I should be stabilised to taper, but after this wave a month ago I have few days quite good and I thought that everything is going fine. However next days I was able to work but for example muscle tension was equal or sometimes greater and to now it's greater. If I should wait for going-away of these symptoms I would have to wait for months. I can't imagine keep this dose for months and yet it turns out that I harmed myself that keeping doses and withdrawal will be even more difficult because of so long taking this drug.

Sorry for chaotic post, but I am getting lost with recognizing of causes of my symptoms. I have good work, second time I try to end engineering studies and I'm worried that I could lose what I gained in last few months and more things. I don't want to cross out my near future by one mistake. Just now I feel that next maybe I will have some problems with work, study.

david, how much escilatopram are you taking now?

I am taking 0.9 mg of escitalopram now - I updated my signature before writing my post. For example, today when i got up at 5:30 I feel muscle tension, especially legs, calves - they last for 2-4 hours, and next I felt quite good and I was be able to work - programming, so brain works not so bad, but it wasn't so good as in best periods of time few weeks and months earlier.

After more than 2 weeks after changing dosage on the current I got this first so serious wave for a long time ( few months). However, some symptoms like ankles pain after cycling appeared earlier few or more days earlier. Before September and to start of September I felt only constant improvement.

Can Vitamins K, C, D in high doses prevent to gain dosage stabilisation? I also try to avoid caffeine, but i happen to drink coffee once for a week, two weeks and eat 100g chocolate with 85% cocoa once for a few days. Can such amount of caffeine make dosage stabilisation inpossible?

It depends on each person's tolerance level.  Many cannot drink any caffeine or eat any chocolate.  I have found, by trial and error, that I can tolerate a small square of chocolate a day, and no coffee at all.  I can tolerate vitamin C, but my husband (also in w/) cannot.

Always change only one supplement at a time, so you can identify what helps and what doesn't.

I echo Alto's advice of holding for a while to allow stabilisation.

2010  Fluoxetine 20mg.  2011  Escitalopram 20mg.  2013 Tapered badly and destabilised CNS.  Effexor 150mg.

2015 Begin using info at SurvivingAntidepressants.  Cut 10% - bad w/d 2 months, held 1 month.

Micro-tapering: four weekly 0.4% cuts, hold 4 weeks (struggling with symptoms).

8 month hold.

2017 Micro-tapering: four weekly 1% cuts, hold 4 weeks (symptoms almost non-existent).

2020 Still micro-tapering. Just over 2/3 of the way off effexor. Minimal symptoms, - and sleeping well.
Supplements: Fish oil, vitamin C, iron, oat-straw tea, nettle tea.

2023 December - Now on 5 micro-beads Effexor. Minimal symptoms but much more time needed between drops. Symptoms begin to increase.

2024 April - Updosed to 6 microbeads - immediate increase in symptoms for 4 days. Decreased to 5 microbeads.

Hi David, I am sorry you feel bad again. I tried many times bust still have difficulty understanding your taper schedule as shown in your signature, especially for the year of 2016. Can you please make it more clear about the month and date for each dose change?

Sorry, I thought that this schedule will be clear, but now I see that You on this forum are writing dates of dose changes. I have written my next periods of time with a dose. It would be better to write it as standard, I am changing it.

I have just question. How can I recognize wheter something wrong was caused by supplement, vitamin etc. or by not stabilised CNS? Do I see impact of supplement, vitamin in next hours or may it be also after few days?

Could last waves be caused by fast tapering over last months?

Hi!

I am still on the same dosage of Escitalopram (0.9mg ) for nearly 2 months. I feel that I am stabilisied or almost stabilised taking account of the majority of symptoms which came more than a month ago. Last few days I wasn't so angry as I was at mornings often. Therefore I haven't already shout on my householders - family members. However, I still have some muscle tensions what doesn't let me to train some sport as I for example train cycling few months ago. Surely I am closer to it, but I feel that I would have to do that by force. Sometimes I still have brain fogs, but I am able to work intellectually (programming).

On the forum I've written that not all of symptoms come away during withdrawal and stabilisation doesn't mean that all symptoms disappear.

I don't know whether this moment is good for next tapering. I know that sometimes it's better to give yourself more time to stabilisate but on the other hand the longer the drug is taken the worse to wihtdraw it completely and withdrawal is more burdensome.

I don't know what it will be better to do now with this drug.

The second issue is next dosage which I have to choose. My current dosage is 17mg (0.017g) of a pill (about 0.9mg of escitalopram). In my situation it is increasingly difficult to make precise dosage of a drug. Change of 1mg of a pill weight is on the border of precision of my digital scale. Can I choose 15mg of drug (possibilty of more than 10% taper). I'm afraid that when I would do it by 1mg, not only that, it still will be inaccurate  it still would be too long.

I want to wrtie about symptoms which I've forgot in my last post. I get some fear when somebody suddenly hit something or  sudden. Now I feel that muscle tensions don't decrease. Sometimes, especially in lower temperature I feel shivers. I am also angry sometimes and feel less of energy to activity. Some of symptoms are constantly with me for more than a month, and it doesn't see to will go away. I am able to work but my functioning is restricted.

Can it be related to fact that my body react otherwise on current dosage after previous steps in withdrawal? Some elements of my current symptoms seem to be similar to symptoms which I sometimes have when I was taking 5mg daily dose about 2 years ago.

I don't imagine to wait on this dosage to disappear these symptoms - they seem to persist. I don't understand why trough few months ago it was be constant trend to be better and better but now since half of September it's much worse.

Should I taper my dosage now? I don't know what it would be the best in my situation, I don't want to do any important mistake.

Please reply to my post, if somebody can do it.

3/21/2014 - Escitalopram Actavis 5mg (half of a pill) every day.

6/1/2014 - Escitalopram 10mg

2/1/2015 - Escitalopram  5mg

3/1/2015  Escitalopram 5mg /every 2 days, every 3 days... up to every 6 days

2021/06/05 - next mistake - I take 2 days levocetirizine for allergy, after 2 days crash, symptoms like on too high doses.
2021/06/07 - 2021/06/16 - 0.4mg - 0.1mg
2021/06/17 - 2021/06/20 - I feel that i could reinstate - 0.1 - 0.6mg, but after 2 days again too high dose

2021/07/15 - 2021/07/19 - 0.12 - 0.01mg - still I feel too high dose effects, some withdrawal symptoms like dizziness, but they let go and more and more too high dose effects, therfore I go down with dose

It seems our taper rate are similar in the past few months and you are a bit ahead of me with cutting doses. I'm in surviving mood too hardly able to get through each day with severe symptoms various day to day and hour to hour.

What have improved or gotten worse since 0.9 mg holding for about two months now? Can you sort them out and list them here? Do you take detailed notes everyday? Is there a daily pattern for each of the symptoms in relation to your dosing time?

I'm a manager for a programming group, so I understand how much it takes to program. if you can still program, it means your brain function is quite good. On a bad day, I can barely type a simple email properly.

Your symptoms could be a withdrawal reaction.  Usually a diary of medications and symptoms can confirm this. Please take notes on paper about your symptoms and medication(s).  Here is a post that gives details about a useful format for a log:

Take notes of doses and symptoms

Please post your notes for 2-3 days here in your introduction.

Have you tried magnesium? You can take it by mouth or apply it as a gel on your skin or in epsom salt baths.  Some people find getting it through the skin (the gel or baths) helpful with muscle stiffness and pain.

Magnesium, nature's calcium channel blocker

Magnesium gel is a water-based solution of magnesium chloride. Sometimes it's called magnesium oil because it feels slippery.

We always suggest being cautious with supplementation and treatments: start with a little bit and gradually work your way up to the full recommended use on the bottle.

  • 2 months later...

Hi,
I'm coming back with my issue after some break. I'm not sure that i do all right with my drug dosage, but I don't know what issue in my case cause some various symptoms.

I hold my 0.9mg dosage for more than 4 months, but some days i feel quite well and symptoms are slight, but on other days symptoms have an noticeable impact on my ability to be active.

I am not sure what are causes of symptoms, probably it is compound of causes. I don't know what to do with dosage, because I am quite confused in diagnose causes of of my symptoms.

i think that they could be these causes below, but I don't which is dominant. Generally I'm able to work (programming), study, but often on 70-80% of my abilities.

1.Maybe they result form inability to measure the correct dose on my digital scale weight
2.withdrawal symptoms.
3.my dose became to strong for me.

Generally, in January I've had a lot of days, when I feel sleepy, and even once I sleep 2 times about 2 hours during the day. Often I sleep for 8-9 hours without waking up (when I don't have to wake up earlier).  However, most days are quite well in terms of my mind, my brain and my emotions. Often most troublesome are issues with my physical fitness. From some time i sometimes have brain zaps, electrical impulses in muscles, but they are very seldom.

Often I feel fatigue quickly during the day. My muscles are stiff or tense (I don't know how it define to be well understood), and they also are more tense, stiff even after short 20-30 seconds run when I hurry for something. Last days I've started to feel I have shivers, they are appear or are stronger when it's cold or when I touch something (not only cold).

Sometimes I get angry and irate, especially in the morning and I want to throw something or something crack. Sometimes I also have sensitivity on some sudden sounds.

Issues with muscles and these shivers are similar to these which were some time after chose, 2.5 mg dosage (which was then significantly too high for me) - especially these which are related to muscles.

From site on this post http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/13907-energy-medicine-and-dr-alice-w-lee/

I've read that:

"I have found that it is important to provide support and healing before attempting to lower a medication, wait for mild signs of the medication being too strong, and then lowering dosages just enough to return the patient back to a state of balance once again.  Signs of overmedication or the medication being “too strong” may include feeling tired, sleeping longer at night, or feeling apathetic/flat.  When these symptoms appear, it is not a signal to add another medication, but to reduce the dosage of the medication that is creating excessive side effects"[/size]

I wonder if this is not an indication that it's time for a dose reduction.

I apologize in advance for my incorrect English. My post is probably chaotic, but I don't have much free time now - I work on Bachelor of Science degree thesis.

davidcpp: Nice to see you back with a post.

Your experience is very common. Symptoms come and go in cycles; they alternate getting stronger and getting weaker. We call this pattern windows and waves: windows of weak or no symptoms and waves when symptoms are present and strong. You can read more about this in
The Windows and Waves pattern of stabilization.

This pattern can occurs when we're still taking medication and after we've stopped. The good news is that eventually the windows get bigger and last longer and the waves get weaker and shorter in duration.

Do your symptoms change much within a day or from one day to the next?

I 've written my post, because I have fears that I stay at this dosage for too long time. I don't see that somebody on this forum, even with longer past with escitalopram keep so long (more than 4 months) one dose. Yes, that's fact that my past proceeding with this drug was completly fault, and maybe this drug work for me differently than the other.

On the other hand I can say that I have similar symptoms that I had a year ago ( then I also had more severe symptoms which didn't allow me to  function totally). Following this logic that then also they were withdrawal symptoms, these more severe symptoms should be stronger or equal when I taper 10-15% from begin of 2016 every 1-1.5 month, but they weakened and at Summer were only slight.

Therefore I wonder whether now my situation isn't similar to that which was about year ago - some symptoms which i have now - muscles and shivers - last I had in such intensity about 7 months ago.

I read about windows and waves, I know about it, but problem is that I have longer and better periods in October, November, December than I have last month.

I have fears that totally withdrawal of drug will be more and more difficult and maybe I needlessly keep one dose so long and I do yourself greater injury.

I also have fears that I am in trap in this point of withdrawal, because of my method of measure of dose. I do every measure the most precisely as I can on the basis of dozoen or so measurements reapeat, but digital scale has 1mg precision and my dose weight 17mg. I haven't access to escitalopram in liquid in my country and in water it isn't well soluble.

I considered already to find a doctor in Europe who would know about it and maybe He could prescribe me this drug in liquid. For example, is there some list of physicians in Europe that could do that? If it is necessary to be saved I could fly somewhere by plane, but I am completly clueless where I could find such help.

2021/06/21 - 2021/06/28 - 0.6mg - 0.12mg
2021/06/29 - 2021/06/30 - I feel that i could reinstate - 0.13 - 0.3, but after 2 days again too high dose
2021/07/01 -2021/07/14 - 0.3 - 0.12mg
2021/07/15 - 2021/07/19 - 0.12 - 0.01mg - still I feel too high dose effects, some withdrawal symptoms like dizziness, but they let go and more and more too high dose effects, therfore I go down with dose
